NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police responded to a crash on March 1 around 9:17 p.m.
A car was traveling northbound in the 5000 block of Jefferson Avenue when the driver hit a pole. According to police, the car was speeding.
There were three people in the car at the time and all three had to be extricated. The man and woman in the driver seat and front passenger seat sustained serious injuries. A man in the back seat suffered life-threatening injuries.
All three people were taken to a local hospital.
Shortly after the accident, a second vehicle with one person hit the first car. The driver of the second car was a man, and he was not injured.
The Newport News Police Department Crash Team is on the scene investigating how the first car hit the pole and why the second car hit the first.
